Thursday Gent

A bridge in Gent with bike road below.
A strange little sign along one of the canals in a construction zone.

Looking down the main canal area and gathering spot.

Typical view with trolley tracks.

A really interesting building with some amazing statues- dime a dozen in Gent.

A convenience store with beer bottles in the window.

The Gravensteen Castle.

Typical street scene with zig zagging trolley wires.

The door to the St. Baaf's Cathedral.
An archaeological dig going on right in the middle of the city, uncovered when they started construction on something.A typical problem in Gent, all the good shots are blocked by some construction vehicle or scaffolding or some type of temporary structure.

A nice quiet side street.

A lazy day along the canal.

Thursday was probably my worst day so far. I am beginning to think the B & B owner is anti American - at least this morning I think she poisoned me with some rotten cheese. I started to get a gut ache about 1 hr after breakfast and it persisted through the night. Plus she kept dropping comments that made me think she has a bad opinion of Americans in general. She said, "Een Belgium ve have dis joke about Ameerika that goes - Belgium, it must be Thursday." Of course I didn't get it so she explained that typical Americans tour all of Europe in a week, so they can tell the day of the week by the country. "Eets reediculous," she said.
After breakfast I worked on a couple of drawings for a few hours. Had another coffee and sat in the sun for too long and started to feel a little weird so I went back to my room to lie down for a little bit. Then I worked on the drawings some more in a little room in the house. After that I walked around for a while and eventually had a very nice dinner of beef roasted in a trappist beer sauce.
I decided to go to bed early and had a rough night. In addition to my continuing gut ache, I started to develop sinus problems due to the fact that I think my room was full of mold and/or mildew. To top things off a few mosquitoes got into the room and I could hear them whining around through the night. I could tell I was ready to move on to Bruge.
